Trailer Bridge To Join T-CPAT Program Press Release, Jacksonville, FL -- Trailer Bridge, Inc. (NASDAQ: TRBR) announced today that it has filed an application to join the U.S. Customs Service's new program, Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT). C-TPAT is a joint initiative between government and business designed to protect the security of cargo entering the United States while improving the flow of trade. Through C-TPAT, the U.S. Customs Service is asking businesses to ensure the integrity of their security practices and communicate their security guidelines to their business partners throughout the supply chain. By submitting this application, Trailer Bridge has committed to several actions, including the completion of a Carrier Supply Chain Security Profile Questionnaire for submission to the U.S. Customs Service's office. This questionnaire will provide the U.S. Customs Service with a self-assessment of the Company's security procedures using C-TPAT guidelines, which were developed by U.S. Customs and the trade community. Also, as part of the C-TPAT program, Trailer Bridge will be working in conjunction with the U.S. Customs Service to develop and implement programs to further enhance security throughout the supply chain process. Ralph Heim, Trailer Bridge's President and Chief Operating Officer, said, "As an exclusive operator of American built, U.S. Flagged vessels, we are proud to be associated with a program such as C-TPAT. Trailer Bridge has a task force continually reviewing all of our policies and procedures with a focus on security. We welcome the opportunity to audit the security quotient of our freight system using C-TPAT guidelines, while highlighting that various core aspects of our system currently provide relative security benefits. The tug/barge model is less labor intensive and its cargo spaces are generally more observable. The de-coupling of engine and cargo components in tug/barges means that once at sea the cargo remains in a sterile non-accessible environment. Similarly, while moving from interior points, cargo in our seamless system remains in our exclusive custody controlled by our truck dispatching team. At each point, fewer people have access to cargo within our system, by definition a systematic improvement in security. We believe that this unique, integrated business modal provides a more secure supply chain for our customers, suppliers, and employees, as well as helping to protect our country's borders." Trailer Bridge provides integrated trucking and marine freight service to and from all points in the lower 48 states and Puerto Rico, bringing efficiency, environmental and safety benefits to domestic cargo in that traffic lane. This total transportation system utilizes its own trucks, drivers, trailers, containers and U.S. flag vessels to link the mainland with Puerto Rico via marine facilities in Jacksonville and San Juan.
