Trailer Bridge has been actively shipping relief goods to the citizens of Puerto Rico on their multiple weekly sailings from Jacksonville, FL to San Juan, PR.  With the increased weekly liner capacity Trailer Bridge will be able to provide another 300 containers, equating to an additional 13.5mm lbs. of relief goods, on top of the millions and millions already being sent.   In an effort to ensure operations in San Juan continue to operate at full capacity, the Trailer Bridge Puerto Rico-based family, as well as their family members, have been provided with the critical necessities, such as power, fuel, food, water, etc.. According to Mitch Luciano, CEO, “As soon as it was clear that Hurricane Maria was headed to Puerto Rico, we began filling containers with goods for our team and their families there.  It was important to us, to not only support our family there, but to also ensure we sustained full operations for our customers and the relief effort of Puerto Rico.”  Luciano added, “We have been working very hard to make sure the needs of all Puerto Ricans are met with the additional capacity being added”.

According to the National Weather Service, Hurricane Maria, which passed over Puerto Rico on September 20, 2017, was the worst hurricane in nearly 90 years for the island.  Areas along the center of the hurricane left behind catastrophic damage and flooding, as well as a loss of power and utilities to the island’s nearly 3.5 million residents.

Luciano continued, “With the amount of damage left behind by Hurricane Maria, it is clear that it will take some time for the island to rebuild.  We have seen an enormous outpouring of support for the people of Puerto Rico, our team there, and thank everyone that has supported them and their loved ones.  The efforts of many to help communities on the island, along with the incredible spirit and strength of the Puerto Rico citizens will no doubt see them through this challenging time.  Our hearts are with all of the people of Puerto Rico.  We are proud to stand firm with them during this time and grateful for the opportunity to provide the relief they need and deserve.”

SANTA ISABEL- Salvation Army Puerto Rico- June 3, 2017– Over 200 children of Santa Isabel, San Juan, Loiza, Guayama, Salinas, Patillas, Bayamón, Toa Alta, Comerío, Canóvanas and Arroyo will be resting today on beds donated by Carlos Correa. The star of the HoustonAstros joined forces with the nonprofit organization Salvation Army of Puerto Rico, Rooms to Go, Mattress Firm of Houston Texas, Trailer Bridge, Loans Trucking and Corey Home Deliveries, to make it possible for kids in Puerto Rico to benefit from the program that began in Texas and that so far, has delivered thousands of beds for underprivileged children.

Carlos Correa feels fortunate to have participated in the experience of working hand in hand with Mattress Firm in Houston Texas, bringing joy to hundreds of children who received a bed to sleep. His love and commitment to Puerto Rico leads him to expand his work as a very personal desire to his people of his hometown in Santa Isabel, as well as to other municipalities in Puerto Rico where the need is great and resources are very limited.

Carlos Correa’s event  #catchingdreams  delivered over 200 beds simultaneously in San Juan, Loíza, Guayama and Santa Isabel along with Rooms to Go in Puerto Rico and the Salvation Army. Correa’s parents, Sandybel Oppenheimer and Carlos A. Correa, as well as his siblings Jean C. Correa and Leibysand Correa, traveled from Houston to be part of the initiative and spend some time with the participating families. “When we felt the impact of delivering beds to children who did not have adequate sleeping accommodations in Houston and saw the joy in their faces, I always wanted to replicate this experience for the children of my Puerto Rico. I will like to say a warm thank you to all the organizations and companies that joined us to achieve the success of this project,” said a very excited Carlos Correa from Houston.

A few months ago the Correa family contacted the Salvation Army of Puerto Rico and asked them for help in identifying families in need, and that’s how a list of over 200 cases of children without adequate beds was created.  Thanks to the outreach of the organization, the generosity of the Correa family and the private companies involved, it was possible to reach eleven towns and touch many lives. “In the Salvation Army, we are delighted that tonight our kids will rest in a comfortable bed, but even better that that, the excitement to have received this great gift from an athlete like Carlos Correa, their hero. We are sure that new and bigger dreams will begin today, “said Eric Rodríguez Divisional Commander of the Salvation Army Puerto Rico.
