Mentorship, Collaboration, Impact: Lessons from the Women in Supply Chain Forum

Leaders from Trailer Bridge recently participated in the Women in Supply Chain (WISC) Forum, an event dedicated to empowering professionals in the supply chain and logistics industry through education, networking, and thought leadership. Attendees explored the importance of championing diversity in the workplace and discussed how men and women can collaborate to foster greater inclusion across the industry. The forum provided a unique platform to connect with industry leaders, engage in dynamic panel discussions, and gain valuable insights into the evolving landscape of supply chain management.

As Marina Mayer, co-founder of the Forum and Editor-in-Chief of Supply and Demand Chain Executive, described in her event recap, the goal was to create “a place where women could come together and lean on each other to become better employees, leaders and co-workers.” This vision aligned closely with the conversations and connections that unfolded throughout the event.

Insights and Takeaways

A consistent thread throughout the WISC Forum was the power of human-centered leadership, an approach embodied by Trailer Bridge CEO Mitch Luciano. Known for championing transparency, connection, and authenticity, Luciano emphasizes that a strong organizational culture shapes performance and outcomes.

This year, Mitch participated in the "Partners in Progress" panel, the first-ever all-male panel. The discussion focused on how men and women can collaborate to advance women’s roles in the supply chain. He shared how Trailer Bridge is supporting this initiative through an internal mentorship program called "Building Bridges." The program is designed to foster connection and personal growth, allowing leaders to get to know and guide participants as they explore topics such as business success, soft skills, personal branding, and more.

His message to attendees was simple but powerful: “Get to know the people — truly know them — around you in your organization. It will change your business.” This advice underscored how meaningful relationships form the foundation for innovation, inclusion, and long-term success.

Building on this people-first mindset, the forum explored ways to foster inclusion and support women in leadership. Mentorship emerged as a critical theme. Whitney Ennis, Trailer Bridge Vice President of Marketing & Communications, noted that it requires “surrounding yourself with champions who offer guidance and perspectives beyond your own echo chamber.” Leadership was highlighted as a mindset rather than a title; even leading yourself authentically sets an example for others.

“Collaboration and inclusion require intentional effort,” said Kacy Swanson, Vice President of Employee Services, noting that progress in male-dominated industries also depends on advocacy and shared responsibility, as discussed in the “Partners in Progress” panel. Speakers also emphasized the importance of anticipating trends and staying flexible in today’s evolving supply chain, echoing Anne Feder’s reminder that “money and numbers follow; they do not lead.”

This year’s forum highlighted the vital role women play in driving innovation and resilience across the supply chain. By combining mentorship, collaboration, and forward-thinking leadership, organizations can cultivate more inclusive, high-performing teams.
